What is Perspectives?

Perspectives started out as a book of poetry, but has since grown into an entire series of poetry and other writings concerning autism and disabilities.

Mission Statement:

The Perspectives Series through the art of poetry and other writings, conveys different points
of view or perspectives concerning the autism spectrum and other neurological, psychological, social, and communicative disabilities. The poems in this volume are from those with disabilities, by those with disabilities, about those with disabilities, as well as from the point of views of family and friends of those affected. Perspectives hopes that its poetry will convey not only understanding, but unity, and a sense that despite different perspectives and different ways of living life, we are all human.

Everyone has an opinion on autism. But it is usually only those who are in positions of authority, specialists, doctors, psychologists, who get to take part in the debates that make the decisions for the rest. Perspectives first and foremost aims to make sure that the people who are most affected by the phenomenon known as autism are not ignored.

The Perspectives Series book tour started on September 16th 2010 at Dowling College in Oakdale Long Island and from there it hit nearly a full dozen venues.

The book tour included live readings and tables at various events and conference days to allow the philosophy of Perspectives to reach as many people as possible. The poets from the anthology came out to these events to read their work and share their poetry with their friends, their families and fans of the cause!

Everywhere Perspectives went people followed, eager to hear these voices that have had such a hard time being heard!
